Langar & Shakhrisabz Tour ( 2 Days)

Overview

The village of Langar is about 70 km south of Shakhrisabz in the foothills of the Ghisar Mountains. The surrounding mountains have a high percentage of ocher and therefore shine reddish. The village of Langar has quite a picturesque landscape, because the simple adobe and brick houses are mostly unflustered and appear pink due to the ocher clay. Langar is a good starting point for hikes in the mountains. The main attraction in the village is the Langar-Ata mausoleum.

Day 1. Samarkand- Shakhrisabz- Langar

In the morning we drive from Samarkand to Langar village via Shakhrisabz – motherland of Tamerlane, where the great ruler and military commander Timur ordered to build Ak-Sarai Palace, two mausoleums for his sons, Djakhongir and Omar-Sheikh and a tomb for himself. Today Shakhrisabz is a small town at foothills with beautiful landscapes of snowy mountains, sunny steppes and herds of cattle. SS tour of Shakhrisabz: Remnants of Ak-Saray Palace, bazaar of Shakhrisabz, Kok- Gumbaz mosque & Gumbazi-Seidan mausoleum  (Dorut Tilovat ensemble, XIV century), Khazrati-Imam mosque (Dorus- Saodat ensemble, XIV century). We continue to  Langar. Overnight at homestay.

Today we hike from the Langar through the path towards the northeast to the end of a transverse valley. From here you have a beautiful view over Langar and the surrounding hills. We continue on a road. The path does not lead down to the valley, but on a bad path to the right towards the steep rock face at the end of the valley. Here, large areas cover Zarafshan juniper trees. On the way you will certainly meet locals who drive donkeys loaded with wood. We arrive gently on a plateau. Above there is a good place to enjoy picnic. After a picnic we continue on steppe grass, flower meadows with a view into the distance. Barely at a 2280 m high summit, the path finally leads west again. We then go steeply down to the mosque and Langar-Ata mausoleum. We drive to Samarkand
