Hike in the Langar valley

The village of Langar is located about 70 km south of Shahrisabz in the foothills of the Ghisar Mountains. The surrounding mountains have a high ocher content and therefore glow reddish. The village of Langar has a pretty picturesque landscape, because the simple mud and brick houses are mostly unpainted and pink by the ocher clay act. Langar is a good starting point for hiking in the mountains. The main attraction in the village is the Langar Ata Mausoleum.

Day 1
Samarkand-Langar-Shakhrisabz

We drive from Samarkand to Langar in the morning. After we arrive, we walk from the Langar through the path in direction northeast to the end of a cross valley. From here you have a beautiful view over Langar and the surrounding hills. Next we go on a driveway. The path does not lead down to the valley, but on a bad path to the right on the steep cliff at the end of the valley. Here, wide expanse of Zerafshan cover juniper trees. On the way, they certainly meet locals who drive donkeys laden with wood. Gently we arrive on a plateau. Upstairs there is a good place to enjoy picnics. After picnic, we continue with less slope on grass, flower meadows with a view into the distance. Only just at a 2280 m high summit vobei the way finally leads to the west again. We then descend steeply to the mosque and Langar Ata Mausoleum. Sightseeing the sights. Drive to Shakhrisabz.

Day 2
Shakhrisabz-Samarkand

Today we visit Schakhrisabs (former Kesch), the hometown of Tamerlane. Shakhrisabs was built like a large white palace (“Ak-Saray” XIV century). The remains of a series of unique mosaics make an impression. Then visit Kok Gumbazi (Blue Dome) (XV century), Gumbazi Sayyidon mausoleum and Hazrati Imam memorable mosque – a reminder of the magnificent city. Drive to Samarkand. In the evening arrival in Samarkand.
