Shakhrisabz means “the green city” and you actually look down on the plains from the Samarkand mountain pass. The first words that come to mind are “green” and “beautiful”. The architectural sights of Shakhrisabs are at least 500 years old. Timur’s hometown Shakhrisabs is a small town south of Samarkand. Most of the city’s sights were built by Timur. Schakhrisabs has many historical sites that point to the roots of the great Timur.

Drive to Shakhrisabz – motherland of Tamerlane, where the great ruler and military commander Timur ordered to build Ak-Sarai Palace, two mausoleums for his sons, Djakhongir and Omar-Sheikh and a tomb for himself. Today Shakhrisabz is a small town at foothills with beautiful landscapes of snowy mountains, sunny steppes and herds of cattle.
